Charles Bartusch
Counselor in OKC
Many people want to know a little about who their therapist is before reaching out, so here is a bit about me and how I got here.
I'm a licensed counselor based in OKC, and I work with individuals and families across a wide range of life experiences. My path to this work was not a straight one.
Before becoming a counselor, I spent years working in public health and as a first responder. That work put me alongside people from every walk of life, often in some of their most difficult moments. It taught me a lot about human resilience, and it also showed me how much people need more than information or enforcement when they are struggling. I wanted to be able to offer something more.
During that time, I began my own therapeutic journey. Through counseling and the practice of yoga, I came to understand how much the mind and body are connected in the healing process. That led me to complete my 200-hour and 500-hour yoga teacher certifications, and I spent nearly a decade teaching yoga and meditation before going back to school to become a counselor.
I completed my Master's degree at Southern Nazarene University in 2021. During my training, I interned at the Better Chance Clinic at OU Health Science Center, where I was trained in PCIT, as well as Calm Waters and Renew Counseling on the SNU campus. I was intentional about surrounding myself with experienced clinicians throughout my candidacy, and I continue to seek out consultation and mentorship today.
I am certified in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), an approach developed to support people who have experienced trauma, adversity, or difficult relational histories. I practice at the HALO Project, a nonprofit in Oklahoma City built around the belief that healing should be available to everyone.
My background in public health, somatic practice, and my own experience as a human being have shaped how I show up in the therapy room. I tend to be warm and direct, and I pull from a range of evidence-based and mindfulness-informed approaches depending on what each person needs.
Outside of work, I enjoy sailing, spending time outdoors, watching the OKC Thunder, and being with my family and our dog.
If something here resonates with you, I'd love to connect. You're welcome to reach out. There's no pressure, just a conversation.
